Reg:Passing Parameter to Trigger
Is there any possibilities to pass parameters to Triggers if so How?.
Siva.No, what is the purpose?

Triggers can use 2 system tables inserted and deleted to see what rows where
affected on the table.

global temporary table outside the trigger, insert the data into that table,
then retrieve the data in the trigger as appropriate.
But most importatntly (as the other poster have already asked) - why?

Reg - Passing parameters to MDX Queries
I am trying to use parameters in MDX Queries From one data set to other data
Set I created a data set which gives me Time values.
I am using this as parameter value as I do in SQL Queries.
Ex -
SELECT {[Measures].[Unit Sales]} on columns,
ORDER([Promotion Media].[Media Type].members,[Measures].[Unit Sales],DESC)
on rows FROM SALES where @.Time
When run It does'nt populate the value for the @.Time parameter
When i preview the report it populates the parameter values but when the
report view button is clicked it fails to build the Query because it cannot
populate the string.
Is there any other way to use the parameters and pass the parameters in MDX
Queries?
if possible with Examples
Thanks,Hi!
In MDX, this is not so simple. Checkt the article at
http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/10894_3386441_1
for the procedure.

This MSDN article explains how to achieve parameterized MDX in RS 2000:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnsql2k/html/olapasandrs.asp
In addition, you may want to download this sample:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f9b6e945-1f4c-4b7c-9c83-c6801f0576ff&DisplayLang=en
BTW: RS 2005 Beta 2 contains graphical and text-based query designers for
MDX and DMX. They also support single-value parameters at this point.

Refresh default value
Hello,
I have report parameters B with default from query.
This query depend on other report parameters A that updates befor report parameter B.
While user open the report and update report parameter A, the report parameter B get default value with the right default value but when user change his selection in parameter A, the default value in parameter B doesn't changed
Any idea ?
Smashing values that the user selected (either explicitly or implicitly by not changing the default) is usually considered to be a bad thing. There exist uncommon cases where the author of the report can reasonably know the user would expect their previously selected value will be overridden. Unfortunately, RS currently doesn't have a feature which would allow the report author to distinguish the common case from the uncommon case. As a result, there is no choice but to go with a design that optimizes for the common case. (Note: RS 2000 defaulted to smashing the user’s selection with the default when an upstream parameter value changed. The resulted in a large volume of customer complaints). One option you may want to explore which may help in this particular case: If the Valid Values list changes (as a result of the upstream parameter value changing) and it no longer contains the user’s selection, we are forced to revert to the default. Careful use of the Valid Values list can in many cases simulate the desired behavior of always overriding the user’s selection back to the default.|||

Shift or Day the from date will be Today - 7 days
Week the from date will be today - 12 weeks
Month, Quarter the from date will be today - 12 month
Year - the from date will ve today - 2 years.
Any option to do that ?

Write a stored procedure that takes a parameter where that parameter is the "Date Unit" you're selecting as a VARCHAR. In that sproc, you test that value and then return dynamically the correct date you want as the default for your From Date.
The sproc always returns a single row with a single column called DEFAULT_DATE or something, but what it returns is dynamic based on the parameter input. Then you create a dataset using this sproc and set it's input parameter to your Paarameters!DateUnit and set your default for your From Date to use this dataset's DEFAULT_DATE value.
I think I've done that in the past. Every time the user changes the date unit, the from date will change to the appropriate default.
...I think.

Reformatting Parameters before using them in Sql query
We use Reporting Services to do reports from a (rather old iSeries /
AS400) database. Date values are stored as numeric data in the format
YYYYMMDD, rather than with a proper "Date" type. This is quite common in
older host-based databases.
In one of our reports, the user should be able to select data by
entering date-from and date-to into parameters, before starting the report.
All that we are able to do right now is to let the user enter the data
in the original YYYYMMDD format, in order to be able to use it in a
parametrized query. What I want to do, is:
a) Let the user enter a date as a parameter in a proper Date format
b) Before executing the query, convert this parameter to YYYYMMDD number
format
I guess this conversion should be done in a custom assembly. However,
there doesn't seem to be a "plug" where I could attach this conversion
code. The only thing I found is to use Generic Query - but this would
really be last resort, because I think it is very ugly and not really
RAD, to lose all of the graphic helpers just because of the date
conversions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ursuse the following custom code:
Public Function ConvertToYYYYMMDD(pYourDateFormat as Date) as String
ConvertToYYYYMMDD = Format(pYourDateFormat, "yyyyMMdd")
End Function 'ConvertToYYYYMMDD
Then in your query you would use for your parameter portion:
code.ConvertToYYYYMMDD(Parameters!YourDateParameter.Value)

referencing report parameters in code
Dim CompId As Integer
CompId = Parameters!CompanyId.Value
It gives me the error:
[BC30469] Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference.
Any ideas (or alternatives) on how to resolve this? Thank you.TechnoSpyke,
The syntax to reference a report parameter has to be done by instantiating a
Reporting Object
For example:
Dim strParamName as string = â'ThisAStringLiteralâ'
Dim strParamValue as string = â'ThisAStringLiteralâ'
Dim Parameters(0) As Reporting.ParameterValue
Parameters(0) = New Reporting.ParameterValue
Parameters(0).Name = strParamName
Parameters(0).Value = strUSerID
For a better documentation, reference the SOAP API call in BOL

What I wanted was to set a variable based on a report parameter (assuming
that this parameter has already a value), from within the report (code
window). The code below was taken from the BOL (Initializing Custom
Assembly Objects).
<Code>
Dim m_myClass As MyClass
Protected Overrides Sub OnInit()
m_myClass = new MyClass(User!Language, Paramters!Territory)
End Sub
</Code>
This is very similar to what I'm trying to do, yet I get a "[BC30469]
Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference." everytime I
reference the Parameters.

Were are you trying to get the value?
-in a custom assembly?
-in the code page of the report?
-in the expression builder of a control on a report?
If you're in a report, the report knows the name of the parameter. You
reference the param by name. So try to assign the value into a variable by
name.
I've not done that, but read about it. Search this newsgroup for params and
search BOL for param usage.

Referencing Parameters in Report Code
Properties page. But it keeps giving me an error that says, "Reference to a
non-shared member requires an object reference." I'm refering the parameter
as Parameters!pBusiness.Label.
Any ideas about how I can see my parameters within the Code block of the
Report itself?you must pass the values in ie
code.dosomething(Param1!value, Param2.value)

Report.Parameters!pBusiness.Label.

Referencing Multi-value parameters in SQL code.
Hi everyone,
I have a report with 2 parameters - Account Manager and Company.
They are both populated from SQL Queries.
The Company query uses the value of the Account Manager parameter in the Where clause so that if an Account Manager is slected only the companies they are in charge of are displayed in the Company parameter.
My Select statement for the Company parameter list is as follows:
SELECT C.Company_Name
FROM Company C INNER JOIN
Employee E ON C.Account_Manager_Id = E.Employee_Id
WHERE (C.Type LIKE ('Customer%') OR C.Type = ('Partner - Customer'))
AND (E._Full_Name = @.Account_Manager)
How can I get this to work if I change the Account Manager parameter to be a Multi-value parameter?
I have tried replacing the "E._Full_Name = @.Account_Manager" with "E._Full_Name IN @.Account_Manager" but this does not work - is there another way to get this working?
Thanks,
Paul.
The IN clause requires the use of brackets.
Try E._Full_Name IN (@.Account_Manager)

Reduce time query in ApllicationName ".Net SqlClient Data Provider"
I have a report with a table, and with a big query who contains 4 parameters.
If users choose some parameters the query is fast but sometime it s very slow...
In the SQL Server Profiler , I can see that is really the query who's very long .
With the ApllicationName ".Net SqlCLient Data Provider" the query during 5mn30
if i execute the same query with replaced parameters in SQL Sever Management , it s ok .
(with SQL Profiler : ApplicationName "Microsoft SQL Server Management" during time = 2s )
Someone can help me ? Is there anything to increment memory cache or something like that ? ...Let's take a look at your query.
